Eisai to cut 25% of U.S. workforce

Eisai Inc., the U.S. subsidiary of Eisai Co. Ltd. (Tokyo:4523), plans to cut about 25% of its 1,700-person workforce as part of a restructuring. Spokesperson Suzanne Grogan said the changes, effective May 1, will occur in Eisai's U.S. commercial and regional corporate services units and will not affect manufacturing or R&D units.

The restructuring will affect a quarter of Eisai's employees in Woodcliff Lake, N.J., including field employees, as well as others in Andover, Mass.; Baltimore, Md.; Research Triangle Park, N.C.; and Washington, D.C. The company said the cuts will allow Eisai to "redeploy our resources to support the development of our priority late-stage compounds and our current product portfolio." ...
