The Bush administration intended to signal its support for FDA when it asked Congress last week to appropriate $275 million more for the agency than the White House originally asked for in its 2009 budget request. The move, however, infuriated one of the most influential advocates for increased FDA funding in Congress, Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.).
