On Inauguration Week, we expressed concern on this page that the biotechnology industry would be at risk if it allowed itself to be defined by outside forces, whether from the White House, self-appointed watchdogs or politicized advocates for particular disease groups. And we noted, with less concern, that it was interesting that Apple Computer Inc.'s John Sculley seemed to be speaking for the high-technology community.

We don't think it was coincidental that Mr. Sculley was seated at the right hand of Hillary Rodham Clinton last week at the President's State-of-the-Union address. Mr. Sculley is simply taking care of business...
