5AM seizes a new Opportunity

Why 5AM Ventures raised its first Opportunities fund

Alongside its newly closed sixth traditional venture fund, 5AM Ventures created its inaugural co-investment Opportunities I fund to give the firm more cash to participate in later venture rounds of its existing portfolio companies.

According to 5AM’s Andy Schwab, the firm wanted the option to put in more capital into companies it believes will have a higher likelihood of success. The firm announced Feb. 13 that the fund closed at $147 million, exceeding its $125 million target.
