Why Warburg, Illumina think time is ripe for a genomics app store

After sitting on the sidelines of molecular diagnostics for more than three years, Warburg Pincus has pulled the trigger on Helix Opco LLC, a newco that plans to run the equivalent of an app store for genomic data.

The consumer genomics company debuted last week with more than $100 million in funding from Illumina Inc. (NASDAQ:ILMN), Warburg Pincus, Sutter Hill Ventures and the Mayo Clinic.
