Why J&J and WuXi are creating asset-centric companies in China

By linking up with the WuXi AppTec unit of WuXi PharmaTech Inc. (NYSE:WX), Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) hopes to jump-start translation in China with an entrepreneur-in-residence program that has the end goal of starting asset-centric companies able to attract money from additional investors.

When J&J's Johnson & Johnson Innovation unit opened its Asia Pacific Innovation Center last October, it said the dearth of entrepreneurs in the region meant the center would spend much of its time translating academic work (see BioCentury, Nov. 3, 2014).
