Boehringer increases investment fund, expands focus

Boehringer Ingelheim GmbH (Ingelheim, Germany) said on Jan. 3 it added €150 million ($178.1 million) to its Boehringer Ingelheim Venture Fund, boosting its total to €250 million ($296.9 million), and is expanding the fund's investment focus to include regenerative medicine, infectious diseases and digital health start-ups.

Boehringer is also doubling the fund's number of investment managers. The fund plans to increase its presence in the U.S. and intends to open a second U.S. office in 2018 in order to collaborate more closely with biotech and start-up companies on the West Coast...
