Medco Health Solutions Inc. sales and marketing update

Pharmacy benefit manager Medco's Precision Health Solutions business unit will launch a suite of pharmacogenetic services in July. The unit will offer a CYP2C19 allele test for cardiovascular drug Plavix clopidogrel; a test to identify HIV patients with CCR5 tropic strains; and an HLA-B*5701 allele test to identify patients who are at higher risk for hypersensitivity to HIV drug Ziagen abacavir. In September, Medco will expand the program to include a test for the BCR-ABL gene in chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) patients treated with Gleevec imatinib. Medco said its acquisition of DNA Direct Inc. in February broadened its genetic testing and diagnostic services. ...
