Allen Institute's Frontiers Group provides $10M grant for human brain evolution center in Boston

The Paul G. Allen Frontiers Group division of the non-profit Allen Institute (Seattle, Wash.) announced the creation of the Allen Discovery Center for Human Brain Evolution at Boston Children’s Hospital (Boston, Mass.) and Harvard Medical School (Boston, Mass.). The Frontiers Group provided a $10 million grant funded over four years. It will match an additional $10 million if the partner institutions leverage $10 million of their own funds, for maximum funding potential of $30 million over eight years.

The Center will support multidisciplinary research -- involving neuronal molecular biology, human evolution, genetics and genomics -- to study human brain evolution and the relationship between genetics and sensory experience. It will identify and catalog genes and perform ancient DNA analysis to discover evolutionary mechanisms of the human brain. ...
