Myrexis autoimmune, cancer news

Myrexis said CEO Richard Brewer died from multiple myeloma. He was 61. Brewer joined cancer company Myrexis in May after nearly 35 years in the biopharma industry. He served as president and CEO of Scios Inc. from 1998-2004, helping lead the autoimmune and cardiovascular company's sale to Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ, New Brunswick, N.J.) for about $2.5 billion (see BioCentury, May 5, 2003 & May 21, 2012).

Early in his career, Brewer worked at Genentech Inc., where he was SVP of sales and marketing and SVP of Genentech Europe and Canada. More recently, Brewer served as chairman of Dendreon Corp. (NASDAQ:DNDN, Seattle, Wash.) and Nile Therapeutics Inc. (OTCQB:NLTX, San Mateo, Calif.), and chairman, president and CEO of Arca biopharma Inc. (NASDAQ:ABIO, Broomfield, Colo.).
