Calgene regulatory update

The EPA granted conditional approval of the use of the herbicide bromoxynil in conjunction with CGNE's genetically engineered cotton. EPA granted a three-year approval to bromoxynil-tolerant cotton and limited its planting to a total of 250,000 acres, 50,000 acres in the first year and an additional 200,000 in the second.

The trial period is intended to demonstrate that herbicide tolerance will not be transferred to other plants and that use of genetically modified plants will not lead to increased herbicide use, the EPA said. ...
