In a mouse model of septicemia, BAL30072 alone or in combination with meropenem was effective against all tested strains of Acinetobacter baumanii, Escherichia coli, Enterobacter cloacae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. In a mouse model of urinary tract infection, BAL30072 alone or in combination with meropenem was effective against ESBL- and carbapenase-producing E. coli. BAL30072 was active against 4 of 5 strains of A. baumanii in a rat soft-tissue infection model. In a murine model of lung infection with isolates of K. pneumoniae and P. aeruginosa, BAL30072 showed comparable efficacy to meropenem, and efficacy was enhanced when the two compounds were given in combination. ...
