The investigator-sponsored, Dutch COMPARE trial in 233 adults with Marfan syndrome showed that Cozaar significantly reduced aortic root enlargement as measured by MRI at 3 years vs. untreated controls (0.77 vs. 1.35 mm, p=0.014). Additionally, a significantly greater proportion of patients receiving Cozaar showed no growth of the aortic root vs. controls (50% vs. 31%, p=0.022). Aortic enlargement beyond the root was not significantly reduced by Cozaar compared to controls. In a subset of patients who had already received aortic root replacement, dilation in the aortic arch was significantly lower in patients treated with Cozaar vs. controls (0.5 vs. 1.01 mm, p=0.033). However, the researchers said baseline aortic dimensions of patients with prior aortic root replacement were not "completely comparable" between groups. ...
