INS-1: Phase II

Insmed published in The New England Journal of Medicine previously reported data from a Phase II trial of 44 obese women with PCOS (see BioCentury, June 22, 1998). The authors noted that PCOS is a model disease for insulin resistance, since improving insulin sensitivity improves ovulation rates in affected women. In the 22 women given INS-1, the area under the plasma insulin curve following oral glucose administration decreased (p=0.07 versus placebo) and 19 of 22 women on INS-1 ovulated versus 6 of 22 on placebo (p<0.001). ...
