Mouse studies suggest CSF1R inhibitors could help treat age-related neurodegeneration. In a mouse model of age-related neurodegeneration, a tool compound CSF1R inhibitor decreased markers of age-related neuropathy including the numbers of thinly myelinated axons, supernumerary Schwann cells, periaxonal vacuoles and regeneration clusters compared with no treatment. Next steps could include testing CSF1R inhibitors in additional models of age-related neurodegeneration.
