Mouse studies suggest PIEZO1 inhibition could help treat pancreatitis. In a mouse model of pressure-induced acute pancreatitis, pancreatic acinar cell-specific knockout of PIEZO1 or the PIEZO1 inhibitor AT-300 decreased histological disease scores and levels of proinflammatory myeloperoxidase (MPO) in the pancreas compared with normal PIEZO1 expression or vehicle, respectively, and the cell-specific PIEZO1 knockout decreased edema in the pancreas.
