Therapeutics: 5-lipoxygenase (ALOX5; 5-LO)

Mouse studies suggest inhibiting ALOX5 could help treat metastatic breast cancer. In a mouse model of spontaneous breast cancer, the generic ALOX5 inhibitor zileuton decreased metastasis to the lung compared with vehicle. In a xenograft mouse model of breast cancer, zileuton decreased the number of lung metastases. Next steps could include testing ALOX5 inhibition in models of other metastatic cancers...
