Antibiotic combos could yield narrow-spectrum therapies

Newly identified synergistic antibiotic combinations could lead to narrow-spectrum therapies for Gram-negative infections, including multidrug resistant (MDR) strains. The research appeared in a Nature article from European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) and colleagues.

The group profiled about 3,000 combinations of antibiotics with other antibiotics, therapies or food additives in strains of Gram-negative species Escherichia coli, Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium and Pseudomonas aeruginosa by measuring growth rates and calculating drug-drug interactions using a computational model...
