New small cell lung cancer subtype identified

In a Genes & Development paper, scientists at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory identified a new subtype of small cell lung cancer defined by high levels of POU class 2 homeobox 3 (POU2F3; OCT11) and suggest that targeting POU2F3 or insulin-like growth factor-1 receptor (IGF1R; CD221) could help treat the newly defined SCLC subtype.
