The microbiome can predict disease risk

A study published in Nature shows the composition of an individual’s microbiome is controlled by environment and largely independent of genetics. It also shows microbiome make-up can predict disease states. Collectively, the findings suggest microbiome measurements could complement traditional genetic testing and provide researchers a window into the role of environment in disease.
