Restrictions could dull impact of importation ‘pipeline’ from Canada

The political impact of a proposed rule by HHS that would allow importation of certain drugs by U.S. states from Canada could be immediate, but few therapies are likely to be imported through the pathway.

An FDA announcement touted the move as a “historic” action and uncharacteristically mentioned the president by name, as did participants at an event heralding the proposal at Florida’s state capitol. The event featured Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.), HHS Secretary Alex Azar and Assistant Secretary for Health Brett Giroir.
