NIDA Director Volkow calls on biotechs to step up to the plate in opioid crisis

Director of NIH's National Institute On Drug Abuse Nora Volkow called on investors and biotech companies to roll up their sleeves and help end the opioid crisis by contributing their intellectual and financial resources to create new medications to treat opioid use disorder, in a BioCentury Guest Commentary.

Volkow stopped short of invoking the industry’s role in creating the crisis as the imperative for action, but called out the healthcare system for abandoning its responsibility towards substance abuse disorders. ...
