Clock ticking for input on emerging biotech for export controls

Eight days remain for the biotech industry to provide input on how to define emerging technologies as the U.S. considers updates to its export controls list under the Export Control Reform Act of 2018.

The law gave the Department of Commerce authority to create export controls for "emerging and foundational technologies," to be defined by an interagency process. Last month, the department's Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) posted an advance notice of proposed rulemaking (ANPRM) seeking public input to help the agencies propose specific emerging technologies essential to national security "for which effective controls can be implemented that avoid negatively impacting U.S. leadership in the science, technology, engineering, and manufacturing sectors."...
