FDA regulations down

FDA had a significant slowdown in regulatory actions last year and the fewest guidances in four years, said a new report by PricewaterhouseCoopers's Health Research Institute (HRI).

According to the report, FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb has shifted emphasis to guidance from regulation. In 2017, the agency released 140 proposed or final regulations, the lowest number since 2012 and 58 off 2016's total. Only six -- none related to biotech or pharmaceutical regulation -- were expected to have an economic impact of $100 million per year or greater, the lowest number in at least two decades...
