Former Celgene CEO Hugin expected to announce run for Senate

Bob Hugin, former executive chairman and CEO of Celgene Corp. (NASDAQ:CELG), is scheduled to speak Tuesday at a Veterans of Foreign Wars location in Delran, N.J., possibly to announce his anticipated run for senator of New Jersey.

While Hugin has yet to officially confirm his campaign, a Twitter account @HuginForSenate has been created under his name.

Hugin retired as executive chairman of Celgene earlier this month after a tenure of 19 years at the company. He served as CEO from 2010 until March 2016 (see BioCentury Extra, Jan. 29).

Hugin donated to President Donald Trump's campaign in 2016, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, which aggregates Federal Election Commission (FEC) data. He has also donated to several Republican candidates and PACS, including 2017 donations to House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.), Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) and the National Republican Congressional Committee.
