White House requests FY14 bump for FDA, NIH

The Obama administration is requesting a bump in FY14 funding for FDA that would come largely from industry. Overall, the administration is requesting $2.6 billion in base appropriations -- taxpayer funding -- for FDA not including user fees, an increase of $52 million from $2.5 billion in FY12. FDA said the administration's budget proposal does include a $15 million cut in base appropriations for the agency's human drug, biologics and medical device programs, though overall these programs would have an increase of $381 million from FY12 under Obama's budget proposal due to user fees. ...
