USPTO files independent interference case on CRISPR patents

Less than a year after a federal court decision ended patent interference proceedings on CRISPR technology IP between the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard and the Regents of University of California, an interference process initiated by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office is the next step in the fight over which party was the first to show the technology could be used in eukaryotic cells.

USPTO filed a declaration of interference Monday before the U.S. Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) involving 10 patent applications from UC and 13 patents and one application held by Broad directed at use of CRISPR in eukaryotic cells...
