AHRQ questions value of genetic testing for DVT

A report by HHS's Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality said that there is no direct evidence to conclude that genetic testing for two gene mutations -- Factor V Leiden ( FVL) and prothrombin G20210A -- in adults with a history of blood clots helps prevent deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or improve other clinical outcomes. Although it found that assays detecting these mutations have high analytic validity, the report said that additional trials with large sample sizes and long-term follow-up would be needed to determine whether changing provider practice based on such genetic test results improves patient outcomes. ...
