Labopharm (Ste-Thérèse, Québec) acquired from the University of Québec and the University of Montréal rights to a drug delivery technology derived from corn starch. The product, cross-linked amylose tradenamed Contramid, is a hydrophilic matrix manufactured from corn starch that is used as an excipient in the manufacturing of pharmaceutical tablets.
