Dade Behring, DiaSorin S.p.A., Roche, Siemens deal

SIE will acquire DADE for $77 per share, or about $7 billion in cash. The price is a 38% premium to DADE's close of $55.91 on July 24, the last trading day before the deal was announced. DADE provides resources and technical support for diagnostic laboratories and markets clinical diagnostics for applications in hemostasis, microbiology and infectious disease. DADE posted 2006 sales of $1.7 billion. DADE will become part of SIE's Siemens Medical Solutions Diagnostics unit, into which SIE merged last year's acquisitions of Diagnostic Products Corp. and the diagnostics division of Bayer AG (FSE:BAY, BAY, Leverkusen, Germany) (see BioCentury, Jan. 8).
