A judge in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California dismissed upheld Amersham Pharmacia's interpretation of claims in the University of California's U.S. Patent No 5,688,648 covering the use of energy transfer dyes in high throughput DNA sequencing (see BioCentury, March 6). Amersham Pharmacia, which is the exclusive licensee of the patent, filed a patent infringement lawsuit against PEB and CRA in 1997. Amersham Pharmacia, a unit of Nycomed Amersham plc (LSE:NAM; OSE:NYA; NYE, Little Chalfont, U.K.), said the trial phase of the suit is scheduled for January 2001. ...
