Russia to launch Sputnik V vaccine into global orbit

Unlike the U.S., Russia is planning a COVID-19 vaccine diplomacy campaign in developing countries

The Russian government plans to exploit the low manufacturing cost and ease of storing and transporting its Sputnik V vaccine to engage in vaccine diplomacy, filling a gap left by the Trump administration’s America First approach to vaccine procurement. 

Based on an interim data readout from a Phase III trial announced Tuesday that demonstrated efficacy comparable to that of mRNA vaccines from BioNTech SE (NASDAQ:BNTX) and Pfizer Inc. (NYSE:PFE) and Moderna Inc.
