BMS Foundation, National Medical Fellowships commit $100M to boost trial diversity

J&J also commits $100M over five years to programs addressing health inequities

Bristol Myers Squibb Foundation and National Medical Fellowships this week committed $100 million to improve diversity in clinical trial enrollment through a career development program that will train 250 clinical trial investigators in community engagement. 

Robert Winn, chair of the training program’s national advisory committee, told BioCentury prior efforts to improve diversity in clinical trials had overlooked the importance of community trust. “Most of the time that patient education doesn't extend to the community, doesn’t extend to trusted voices within the community to deliver the message.
