Arbor Vita reports HPV test data

Arbor Vita Corp. (Fremont, Calif.) said its HPV E6 Test had 99% specificity and 69.6% sensitivity for detecting CIN3+ precancerous lesions in a trial to diagnose cervical cancer and cervical intraepitheleal neoplasia (CIN) precancerous lesions. Comparatively, visual inspection of the cervix with acetic acid (VIA) produced 94.1% specificity and 47.8% sensitivity. Additionally, the HPV E6 Test led to a ninefold reduction in the referral rate for women requiring follow-up and/or treatment compared to the digene HC2 HPV DNA test (1.5% vs. 14.3%). Arbor Vita's test is a non-invasive assay that detects the HPV E6 oncoproteins of HPV 16, 18 and 45 in cervical swab samples.
