Locana Inc. (San Diego, Calif.) hired Kathie Bishop as CSO to succeed acting CSO Gene Yeo, who co-founded the company and chairs its SAB. Bishop was CSO at Otonomy Inc. (NASDAQ:OTIC) and previously held roles at Tioga Pharmaceuticals Inc. (San Diego, Calif.) and Ionis Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NASDAQ:IONS). The addition of Bishop follows the RNA-targeting gene therapy company’s $55 million series A in May, when it also hired gene therapy veteran and board member Jeffrey Ostrove as CEO (see “Locana Readies RNA-targeting Gene Therapy for Clinic”).

Synlogic Inc. (NASDAQ:SYBX) said it has hired Richard Riese as CMO and Michael Slater as head of regulatory affairs. Riese will take over duties from President and CEO Aoife Brennan; he was VP, clinical development at Alnylam Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NASDAQ:ALNY). Slater was VP of regulatory affairs and head of development operations at Merrimack Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NASDAQ:MACK).
