As funding dwindles, CIRM believes goals within reach

With $33M left to disburse, California's stem cell institute pins hopes on another ballot measure

If the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine is unable to obtain funding to continue operations when its current reserves run out, the organization still believes the relatively modest goals set forth in its five-year plan adopted in 2015 are attainable.

While those benchmarks -- including an attempt to fund 50 new clinical studies in a five-year period -- may be within reach, CIRM will certainly fall short of generating the kind of savings to taxpayers that voters were promised when they approved a $3 billion ballot measure to create the institute in 2004 and fund stem cell research in the state...
