Zhang's RESCUE platform converts RNA C to U bases
Feng Zhang and colleagues at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard have developed a single base RNA editing system that can convert cytosine into uridine, dubbed RESCUE (RNA Editing for Specific C to U Exchange), which follows the teams' REPAIR platform that converts adenine bases into inosine in RNA. The RESCUE system fuses a cytosine deaminase to deactivated Cas13. In a Science paper, the team reported the system could convert the Alzheimer's disease risk variant APOE4 to a non-risk variant.
