B. fragilis PSA for the prevention of Herpes simplex encephalitis

INDICATION: Encephalitis; herpes simplex virus (HSV)

Mouse studies suggest B. fragilis PSA could help prevent encephalitis caused by HSV. In a mouse model of HSV encephalitis, pretreatment with B. fragilis PSA followed by acyclovir decreased leukocyte infiltration of the brainstem and increased survival compared with vehicle pretreatment plus acyclovir.
