Inhibiting RAR for retinitis pigmentosa

Mouse studies suggest inhibiting RAR could help treat retinitis pigmentosa. In a mouse model of retinitis pigmentosa, intravitreal injection of a pan-RAR inverse agonist tool compound increased retinal sensitivity to light flashes compared with vehicle. Also in the model, injection of an adeno-associated viral (AAV) serotype 9 (AAV9) vector encoding dominant-negative RAR increased behavioral responses to light compared with no treatment.
