Cell culture and worm studies suggest the PTP-1B inhibitor trodusquemine could help treat AD. In human cells cultured with β amyloid 42 (Aβ42), trodusquemine decreased the formation of Aβ42 oligomers and increased cell viability compared with no treatment. In a Caenorhabditis elegans model of AD, trodusquemine decreased motor impairment. Next steps could include testing trodusquemine in additional animal models of AD...
