Cell culture and mouse studies suggest inhibiting MENA could help treat metastases of serous ovarian cancer. In a panel of serous ovarian cancer cell lines, expression of the MENA isoform MENAΔv6 was associated with high invasiveness. In a xenograft mouse model of ovarian cancer, the endothelin receptor antagonist Opsumit macitentan decreased tumor levels of MENA and MENAΔv6 and the number of intraperitoneal metastatic nodules compared with no treatment.
