IBM Corp. (NYSE:IBM) and JDRF (New York, N.Y.) partnered to identify risk factors for Type I diabetes in children by applying IBM’s machine learning algorithms to data from JDRF research programs. JDRF spokesperson Kristy Evans told BioCentury that results from the one-year pilot project are expected late next year.
IBM will analyze “genetic, familial, autoantibody and other variables” from at least three datasets to identify risk factors and build predictive models. The first studies to be analyzed are the DAISY study by the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, the DiPiS study by Lund University, and the DEW-IT study by the Pacific Northwest Diabetes Research Institute...
