Non-human primate studies suggest C5 inhibitors could help treat sepsis. In a baboon model of E. coli-induced sepsis, pretreatment with the macrocyclic peptide inhibitor of C5 RA101295 decreased sepsis-induced coagulopathy, cardiomyopathy, inflammation and organ failure and increased survival compared with no treatment. Next steps include testing RA101295 in additional models of sepsis.
