Estrone-conjugated liposomes could be used to deliver therapies to ESR1-positive tumors. The liposomes are composed of distearoylglycerophosphoethanolamine (DSPE) conjugated to polyethylene glycol (PEG) and the ESR1 ligand estrone and loaded with a cancer therapies. In an acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) cell line, liposomes loaded with Novantrone mitoxantrone decreased proliferation compared with free Novantrone with IC50 values of 0.7 and 29 ng/mL, respectively. Next steps could include testing the liposomes in animal models of ESR1-positive cancers...
