Mouse studies suggest inhibiting GLO1 could help treat depression. In a mouse model of depression, GLO1 knockout or GLO1 inhibitor tool compounds decreased depressive behaviors compared with normal GLO1 expression or vehicle. Also in the model and two other mouse models of depression, GLO1 inhibition decreased depressive behaviors more rapidly than the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) Prozac fluoxetine.
