Mouse studies suggest thioredoxin could help treat age-related hypertension. In a mouse model of age-related hypertension, human thioredoxin or systemic expression of human thioredoxin decreased blood pressure and aortic stiffness and increased endothelium-dependent vasorelaxation in the superior mesenteric artery compared with vehicle or no transgene expression, respectively. Also in the model, systemic expression of human thioredoxin decreased vascular flow resistance in the superior mesenteric artery compared with no transgene expression. Next steps could include testing thioredoxin in additional hypertension models...
