Studies in patient samples and cell culture suggest let-7c, miR-99a and miR-125b could serve as prognostic markers in patients with estrogen receptor-positive luminal breast cancers. MicroRNA profiling showed that levels of let-7c, miR-99A and miR-126 were lower in an estrogen-independent human breast cancer cell line than the estrogen-dependent human breast cancer cell line from which it was derived. In samples from patients with estrogen receptor-positive luminal breast cancers, low tumor levels of let-7c, miR-99a and miR-125b were associated with poor survival. Next steps could include developing an assay to identify patients with poor prognosis based on let-7c, miR-99a and miR-125b expression levels...
