Therapeutics: Suppressor of cytokine signaling 3 (SOCS3); phosphatase and tensin homolog deleted on chromosome ten (PTEN; MMAC1; TEP1)

Mouse studies suggest inhibiting SOCS3 and PTEN could help treat corticospinal nerve damage. In a mouse model of corticospinal nerve damage, knockout of SOCS3 and PTEN in cortical neurons increased compensatory sprouting of normal axons compared with normal expression of one or both genes. Also in the model, knockout of SOCS3 and PTEN in corticospinal neurons increased forelimb fine motor function. Next steps could include testing inhibition of SOCS3 and PTEN in tissue samples from patients with nerve damage...
