IMI launches antibiotic discovery project

Europe's Innovative Medicines Initiative launched the European Gram-Negative Antibacterial Engine (ENABLE) project to progress antibacterial research programs through discovery and Phase I testing. The goal is to move at least one novel antibacterial for Gram-negative infections into Phase II testing by 2019. IMI will provide EUR 59 million ($80.5 million) in funding, and consortium members will provide EUR 26 million ($35.5 million) in in-kind contributions.
