Signaling that she has no intention of shying away from investing in research that could lead to therapies for addiction, Nora Volkow, director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), announced a restructuring of the institute to promote neuroscience and translational research.

The changes echo a recent strategy by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) to alter the balance of translational and basic research, proposed at the National Advisory Council on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism meeting in June.
